The Stuff In Life That Matters Is Never Stuff.
Tonight, our family had our weekly traditional ‘Taco Tuesday’.
If you know me at all, you know that Taco Tuesday occasionally includes tacos.
But actually, quite rarely.
Sure, sometimes Taco Tuesday means going to a Mexican restaurant. But sometimes it means having chicken and noodles in one of our homes.
There are times it means each of us bringing in our own carry out food and just eating together.
Sometimes it means celebrating a birthday with cake & funny cards.
Sometimes it means doing something unique and fun like bowling, putt-putt or going to a fund raiser, together.
And sometimes it means creating a theme.
Tonight, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and my brother’s birthday.
Obviously, St Paddy’s Day was yesterday, and my brother’s birthday is tomorrow. So today was a combo day.
We all dressed in St Paddy’s clothes and made either traditional Irish food or created green food to contribute to the dinner.
We had rubens with corned beef & sauerkraut, kielbasa & cabbage, shepherd’s pie, dark green salad, sweet green fluff, green deviled eggs, green corn bread and, to wash it all down, green punch!
Chris even brought Guinness to have on hand, for those who preferred that over green punch.
We played music from River Dance and there may have even been an Irish jig or two displayed.
Prayer began the night, as always.
Our dinner conversation was lively as always.
And our night ended with hugs, kisses and ‘I love yous’… as always.
It was so much fun!
I am blessed out of my mind!
My belly is full… and so is my heart!!
So, sooo full!!
I can’t encourage you enough to create regular traditions with people you love.
Our Tuesday tradition is a treasure in my life, and I know it is in the lives of my family, as well.
Because of life, work and geography, everybody can’t be there every week.
So, sometimes there are 5 of us at these get-togethers and sometimes there are 35.
Tonight, we had 12.
But regardless of the number, it happens every single Tuesday night… no matter what.
Traditions create safety, stability and steadfast love.
Enjoy traditions, my friend.
And, if they don’t exist in your world… create them.
If your blood family isn’t close, create them with friends, neighbors or groups you’re part of.
Your love will be deeper, your joy will be greater, and your life will be richer.
Create times that you and yours can look forward to and treasure, together.
Why?
Because the stuff in life that matters is never stuff.
